DJ fame archived, no talent required! Thank you Social Networks!

I have been out and about lately as the New Kid on the DJ block that I am, trying to make friends on the scene(probably for my benefit 'cause some of these guys might be willling to share their tips and tricks to my advantage). I have lately been following DJ blogs, DJs on twitter and even made a few DJ friends on Facebook. 

Fame achieved, no talent required!

What really strikes me is the tendency for all of us in the trade to wanna archieve fame through social media rather based on raw talent and massive, awesome perfomances! my guess is more than a handful of us have attained a certain level of fame through over-rating ourselves and blowing our images out of proportion by over-advertsing ourselves and oversatting facts about how our "last night gig' was!

I personally believe in 2 things as a DJ, Talent & Learning! Some of us are born to do this whole, mix, blend and scratch thing, some of us will learn and some us are just really good on social sites where the use of Photoshop and other Picture Editin programmes are being made (Ab)use of!!!

Unfortunately for us all, this is the age we live in, the age where an artist's fame is merely based on his avid use and knowledge of the electromic media. Its easy to fool a lot of people to blow yourself up into 'superstar' status simply by accumulating a huge online following more than half of which has never seen you perform! Hats off to those of uswho were in the trade in the 80's amd 90's when the only way you'd get your name out there was a wild perfomance, followed by a wild word-of-mouth spread of your name and how you performed! Sometimes I do see why the seniors in the trade look at us the new cats an say, "Damn! They don't make real like us any more!"

When The Ball Starts Rolling!! It Rolls Swiftly!!

Its been over a week since my last post and its not because I've been neglecting the blog, rather its because the previous week has been filled with so many haps and I just couldn't get time to sit down and tell youn whats been happening!

Well now that I have a little time on my hands and now I can tell you whats been up!!! Things have been rolling a little bit out of my control now since i started gigging here!!! It all started that one thursday when they called me to club @Zevolis (on Twitter) to do a demo!!! I panicked! thought I would either faint or die! This to me was one the biggest breakthroughs in my attempt to get somewhere as a DJ!!! Earlier efforts to progress from doing small whack clubs and small parties was almost getting to my head and I was on the Verge of giving up!!! When the Bar manager asked me to come do a demo, I swear I could have fainted! Then I did, I went! And I did all I could to best I could!! I actually had people on the dancefloor dancing!!! Completely oblivious to the fact that I was just an entry level DJ auditioning for a job at the club! That very same night @Zevolis club manager twitted this here and it is I guarantee it's a twitter quote, "

@dj_neonn on the decks @Zevolis dude looking good gonna light up the sky with practice #realdjs"

 

I was fluttered! Could have easily counted for one of my happiest moments in this endeavor! I swear I could have fainted when I saw that twitter mention! Now before I knew it he had granteed me Monday night residency!!! Yes that means I am guaranteed a DJ shift every single Monday! And again before I knew it I was doing weekend gigs! I gigged on Friday, then Saturday! Back again on Monday! And then again on Tuesday!!! It completely spiraled out of control! Just not in a way I didn't like! Cause i did!!! The money wasn't so bad as well!! 

 

So now we all know i haven't been neglecting my blog!!! things just really started moving fast!!! Really fast!!! But I'm back now!! And the plan now??? Cape Town! I've got to crack The City Centre if I'm gonna make both progress and money!!! I got two or three targets on the Cards and I will let you know how that goes!! But for now, keep well!!

So I  finally got the demo gig @Zevolis and thats happening tonight! Took so much hard work, begging, and a little butt kissing! Well if it works out it might be worth the while, wait and begging! We all gotta start somewhere and this maybe where i do!

I'm thinkin about canceling the Retro Rooftop jam on Sunday because of the low number of people who have RSVPed me! The event was posted on Facebook and I sent out 75 invites and only 6 people only have so far informed me that they  are coming! We may also cancel because of thew erratic weather we have been having last few days!!!

Status update, plans for Retro Sunday On The Rooftop are @ an advanced stage!!! Invites have been sent out and everyone knows what they need to bring(three simple B's, Booze, Boobs and Boerwoers). We are still workin on the logo's for both @DJ_Neonn and for the SoundBash Promos company!!!

I have though been workin hard and fast on both and  I have completed the first of my DJ_Neonn logos which(if i can find the button) will paste here as well. The first of the SoundBash logos is still too much of work in progress for me to release as yet!!!

As for the demo CD I just need to do one more mix for it to complete and with work(as in Jamaica), work on the logos and the perpetual partying, i just cant seem to get myself around to the part where I just lock myself in and do an easy hour of mixing!!!!

Well as for now this is what we have, what we are doing and what we will be doing over the next few weeks!!!

Plans Jetting Off!!!

Those who've been avidly following us on Facebook and Twitter will know that plans are underway to get the DJ Career kicking off and a Promotions Company registered and operational! I'm currently working on a logo design for the promo company I aptly called SoundBash Promotions(yes cause thats how hard we will whip you with the music). A couple of the parties we previously hosted were a big hit and we are now working on doing a few of the Retro Sundays On the Roof(Yes cause we old school like that)!!  

Now as part of the identity and promotions(as in marketing), I have also started a blog to keep you posted and updated on events and whatever other haps we will be going through!!! Keep an eye out for the SoundBash Logo to be released soon!! See you @ Retro Sunday on the 27th
